During Fall 2006, Zoraida Velasco recognized there was a need in the
community for college students to get more involved and decided to act upon
it by creating a non-for-profit organization. She began by creating
MSPNA
(Minority Student Professional Networking Association)
which later became
what today is known as
Future Minority Leaders.

Zoraida found Helen Pastrana who was very interested in MSPNA's cause
and decide to help her promote and build the organization. By December they
had recruited Dr. John Banko as their faculty advisor and submitted their
constitution for approval  to the University of Central Florida's Office of Student
Involvement to be recognized as an official UCF organization.

These two ladies realized that most of their friends were graduating from
college and the great majority of them had no idea where or how to take the
next step into beginning their professional careers. They decided that
through this non-for-profit organization they would provide college students
and recent graduates with the opportunities to:

Helen Pastrana
Helen Pastrana holds a Bachelors of Science in
Psychology from the University of Central Florida, Orlando,
FL where she took numerous professional development
courses. During her stay at the UCF, Ms. Pastrana was
involved in several professional organizations and a study
abroad program. Spanish is her native language, she is
fluent in English and is very knowledgeable in the French
language.

Zoraida Velasco holds a B.A. in Business Administration
from the Institut Commercial de Nancy (ICN) Ècole de
Management, Nancy, France and a B.S. in Business
Administration – International Economics from the
University of Central Florida, Orlando, FL. Spanish is her
native tongue and she is fluent in English and French.

She currently works as the Coordinator for the International
Business Development Department at the
Metro Orlando
Economic Development Commission.
Ms. Velasco serves as Membership officer for Toastmasters Club 129 and for
the
Rotary E-Club of the SE USA and Caribbean. She is a founding member of
the
Peruvian-American Chamber of Commerce of Central Florida and is
actively involved with other local bi-national chambers of commerce.
Furthermore, she serves on the Advisory Board for Future Minority Leaders as
well as for the United States Hispanic Leadership Institute SE USA Regional

Ms. Pastrana recently relocated to Dallas, Texas. Before leaving Orlando, she
worked for four years as an Office Manager for the Office of Scott R. Fransen,
Chapter 7 U.S. Panel Bankruptcy Trustee. Part of her duties included analyzing
complex documentation as well as sensitive correspondence. She is very
familiar with all aspects pertaining to Chapter 7 bankruptcies and has basic
knowledge of Chapter 13 and Chapter 11 bankruptcies.

Ms. Pastrana is extremely motivated and always is looking for ways to inspire

Expansion - New Chapters

One of the goals of the organization is to create new chapters at other college
