"Enhancing Opportunities, Challenging Assumptions"
|
All Rights Reserved 2007-09

Diversity and inclusion is a hot topic for employers and government agencies now a days. At FML we seek
to "enhance opportunities" for minority students and help them "challenge assumptions" that are
commonly perceived.
By volunteering you will get the opportunity to participate in professional development conferences,
business trade shows, award ceremonies, and much more. These events will provide you with exposure
to professionals who may become your mentor, offer you an internship, or even hire you!
The experiences you will have by getting involved with FML are usually not part of a regular college
curriculum and you will rarely learn in college the networking skills you need to enter the "real world".
Furthermore, community involvement is an important aspect considered by employers. By participating in
FML promoted events you will be able to include these on your resume and give yourself a competitive
advantage over other candidates.
The hands-on experience and the relationships you will be able to foster will serve as a guide for you when
deciding what field of your career you would like to pursue upon graduation.

"FML was helpful in so many ways. The great thing about this organization is that its whole intent is to
see you grow and develop professionally... You're introduced into this other world - the 'real world'
where first impressions are everything. Especially through their workshops; they cover all types of
topics from what is the appropriate to wear to the best way to market yourself to proper business
etiquette in social situations. Before FML, there were a lot of little details I would have missed if I
were to attend a 'grown-up' event that now I will catch myself fixing. You gradually take on the
perspective of businesswoman/man and with confidence." - Jerusalem Belai, UCF student, Health Services
